Congratulations to Chloe Potter and Brendan Albano. Cloe is a student at Jefferson Middle School and Brendan attends South Eugene High School. The two have been dancing together since last November with the intention of training for competition. The training requires a special focus on correct technique and skill development such as footwork and foot positions, amount of turn, alignments, and contra body movement.

Chloe and Brendan were examined in American style Fox Trot and Waltz by Diane Jarmolow, a National Examiner for the DVIDA syllabus, and received high scores for their efforts. Next goal for the young dancers is to complete their training for Bronze level American style Tango and Viennese Waltz so they will be ready for the phase two of their Medal Exams. Then off to Las Vegas this summer to compete at the Nevada Star Ball. Chloe and Brendan train with Linda Staver.

The Staver Dance Company provides Medal Training for Ballroom Dance by Certified Teachers recognized by the NDCA for Students in the Eugene/Springfield area, and beyond. The Medal Programs are designed for students who would like to measure their progress in a nationally recognized formal curriculum that adheres to a national standard of excellence. Upon completion of the Medal course program, successful candidates can be tested for a “Certificate of Achievement” by a National Examiner.

Medal examinations can be taken in levels of proficiency designated by a Medal Standard of progression identified as Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The students dance before a National Examiner, who grades their dancing progress and skills. If they pass the exam, they receive a national “Certificate of Achievement.” The Medal Program is an excellent way to set specific goals and focus your dance education.

The National Dance Council of America (NDCA) is the official governing body for ballroom dancing in the United States. One of he purposes of the NDCA is to support high standards in dance education, and to acquaint the public with the nature and benefits of these standards and to recognize the status of qualified dance teachers affiliated to member organizations of this Council.
